Thursday - this couple had chosen to place their marquee centre of the big lawn to ensure views of the house and the view to the hills.  Marqco Marquees puts his marquees up so fast that I failed to get a picture of him and his team at work!  The Capri style of his tents fitted perfectly with the glorious weather.

On Friday an army of friends and family turned up to help the couple set up.  Tables were put in place and covered with clothes which were all ironed or steamed before being put in place - such attention to detail.

Once perfect, the bride draped a sage green runner across each one.  Each guest had a beautiful gold decorated plate which looked like glass but was in fact plastic.  On top of this went a cream fabric napkin fitted into a gold ring and a handwritten name tag.

A mirrored mat was place in the centre of each table, on top of which was a rose in a glass vase and a bottle of gin!

The simplicity was very effective.

Friends assembled and filled a crisp wall and put the drinks ready to place into buckets of ice the next day.

Outside, a board was being put up, to house a pair of sunglasses for each guest.  Each pair had their name and table number on it.  The groom’s brother in law had added the perfect lettering.

More friends were finalising the Plan of the Day Board – again all handwritten – while another arranged flowers round a welcome board.  All the flowers being used were fake but until you got up close you would not have guessed.

The weather was so lovely that they could move the welcome sign to the entrance to the lawns and put a table beside it with baskets full of confetti and even fans to keep the guests cool.

The weather was forecast to be dry overnight, so all the chairs were taken down to the gazebo lawn ready for the ceremony the next day. The bride’s son turned all the seat covers over to protect them from the dew.  He was incredibly helpful throughout the weekend

With the chairs in place, they staged a rehearsal which caused much hilarity!

Paper decorations were added to the ribbons already hanging from the branches of the Catalpa tree – left by a previous wedding but too pretty to take down!!

The Cherry bar arrived to set up – they had thought that they would be inside and had not brought a cover but luckily the couple had a spare black gazebo to pop over the top of them. The next day they added lights.

Soon it was time to return home to rest before the big day

Saturday and the weather was forecast to be very hot.  Demaine Artisan Pizza drove into the field early to set up their gazebo and ovens.  He is a friend of the couple. You can see from the colour of the grass in the field how hot it has been. The firm was well equipped with fire extinguishers.

For the groom and his friends there were many last minute tasks to fulfill.

Lanterns, decorated with flowers appeared down the aisle and the outside chairs were draped with white chiffon. Reserved seats were marked with a polite card

The boys turned over all the seat covers again, sweets and drinks were placed ready for guests to grab before the ceremony, flipflops appeared in the marquee for weary feet later in the day, and little bags of confetti placed in the basket set out for them.

The groom went into the house to see the registrars, passing the ancestors in their wedding hats on his way.

Time for him to encourage the guests to leave their drinks and take their seats - the bride was arriving.

The bride looked amazing in a tight fitting dress with a lace top and a fish tail train. She was accompanied by four adult bridesmaids in matching pale green dresses.

The party went into the house for the bride to meet the registrars. On coming out, they paused briefly to have their photographs taken on the steps.

Then they lined up on the drive, waiting for signal to go down to the gazebo where the groom was patiently waiting. The bridesmaids were each matched with a young escort. The bride was being given away by her youngest son. The music started and it was time to set off - as you can see a very relaxed journey!

The bridesmaids took their places and the ceremony began.

They had a couple of readings.

but not all the guests were thrilled with the proceedings!

Both bride and groom exchanged rings and soon it was time to pronounce them man and wife and to sign the register.

Time to turn and face their guests and leave in a storm of confetti followed by their bridesmaids with their youthful beau.

Guests moved up to the lawn by the marquee, helping themselves to drinks and sweets. The photographer began to take the group photographs - again all very informal - starting with one of the whole wedding party.

The couple had arranged for their two dogs to come and join them for the photographs.

Everyone chatted on the lawn, or explored the grounds or tried their hand at croquet which had been laid out on the gazebo lawn. Haybales made a grandstand for spectators.

Some were brave enough to try out the stick on tattoos on offer.

Speeches came next and guests found their places in the marquee.

Following speeches, guests made their way out into the fields to choose their pizza from the delicious selection on offer at Demaine Artisan’s stall.

Pudding took the form of an ice cream from a proper ice cream van! The bride took her turn at serving!

The photographer whipped the couple away to have some informal photographs taken in the grounds.

Meanwhile, the groom’s sister and colleagues were loading the long table in the marquee with the most incredible cold buffet ready for guests to help themselves as they wishes.

Vines Kitchen - +44 1258 920582 / Vinesa31@gmail.com

In the midst of all this was the wedding cake. A towering confection of doughnuts with an iced cake on the top, all put together by the bride’s stepmother.

This was not the only cake that day - it was bride’s stepfather’s birthday and a chocolate cake with a fiery fountain on top was produced much to his embarrassment and joy.

The fun continued with everyone enjoying themselves outside in the blazing sun until it began to go down. The couple came into the marquee to cut the cake, and the music started to play - the signal for the couple to take to the floor for their first dance.

Disco - Finlay Wort - a friend of the family - he had also masterminded the music for the ceremony.

The music continued until midnight when everyone departed for their beds - some to home and some to Airb&b’s in the surrounding countryside. It had been a day full of love, laughter and fun.

A wedding with a view to the hills

This couple had chosen to get married in front of the gate to the Ha Ha as they loved the view of the hills beyond. This meant that Marqco Marquees had been asked to put up their Capri marquee on the Gazebo Lawn.

+44 7787 825548 / enquiries@marqco.co.uk / marqco.co.uk

The Marquee went up very quickly as it was only one module – slight panic when the couple came over about whether they should have ordered an extension, but all was well in the end - the forecast was sun and yet more sun so most of the day would be spent outside!

Friday - The bride had been planning and preparing for this wedding for two years and wanted to be sure that everything was perfect and it was. Boxes revealed beautifully folded napkins, silk flowers and confetti.

Ribbons were hung across the entrances to the marquee, across the end of the marquee and even in the branches of the catalpa!

Tables were laid - having the napkins ready folded saved hours of time. Each table had a white runner across the centre, a small glass vase of Gypsophila and two pink faux candles in brass candlestick.

Each guest had a gold edged plate - amazingly made of plastic - with one of the beautifully folded napkins on top. Under this was a card welcoming them to the wedding. A hand-written label, on a pink ribbon showed them their place and as a treat each place had a bottle of “Pink Lady” cocktail! One had to be swiftly removed as it was in a child’s place!

The newly marrieds had a table to themselves.

The bride placed a tall mirror under the catalpa tree with words of welcome written on the top. Silk flowers decorated the bottom. The bride used silk flowers throughout so that she could arrange them in advance - she was so excited that could not wait until the day!!

The bride had painted her card box to match the “Timings for the Day” board and these were put ready to go out side the following morning, along with a table guide and a crossword for guests to complete.

With the weather looking so dry, the chairs were put in place over by the Ha Ha but the silk flower arrangements were kept safely inside as there was quite a breeze.

With their photograph line hung and the disco ball suspended from the roof of the marquee it was time to go back to Chisel Barn in Child Okeford. They were hosting both the bride and groom and their families in Airb&b's cottages.

Chisel Barn - info@chiselbarn.co.uk / 07824 638117 / https://www.chiselbarn.co.uk/

Saturday - the groom arrived early with his groomsmen - all looking very smart in Tuxedos.

Bottles were put on tables, notices set up outside the marquee and by the entrance to the lawns and cards arranged on the chairs.

Then came the setting out of the huge flower arrangements that the bride had so carefully made. These were to sit on very delicate stands and the wind was blowing - great for the heat but not for the flowers. After trying many things, we lent some metal stakes, which were place round the back where there could not be seen by the guests and hey presto - stability!

It looked lovely, ribbons had been tied to each chair and smaller floral arrangements, tethered with tent pegs set at the end of the aisle.

The disco - Mr DJ - arrived to set up his gear in the marquee and to make a sheltered safe spot for his amplifier as he was in charge of music for the ceremony.

Email: Jools@mr-dj.co.uk / Website: www.mr-dj.co.uk

The boys returned to the marquee to check that every thing was in place before grabbing a beer from the Copper Still Bar who had set up their horse box in the field ready to serve guests as they arrived.

The bride’s mother drove up with the car full of the most amazing cup cakes - a perfect iced flower on top of each one. There was also a beautifully iced white cake to cut later. These were put in the porch for safe keeping out of the sun.

With videographer and photographer ready, it was time for guests to put down their drinks and take their seats. The groom had been into the house to see the Registrars and was now dispatched to take his place.

The bride’s car drove up the drive and she and her bridesmaids got out - all looking amazing. The bride in a lowcut dress with a ruched front, tight bodice and a flowing skirt. Three bridesmaids were in green and the fourth waring a matching dress but in yellow. All held bouquets of fresh flowers made up by a family friend.

Adjustments made to the bride’s veil, they posed for a few formal photographs before going into the house passed the watchful ancestors

More photographs were taken inside while the bride saw the Registrars but soon it was time to open the curtains, the signal for the music to begin and the first bridesmaid to make her way down to the nervous groom waiting at the end of the aisle.

The bride came down the steps from the Dining Room on the arm of her proud father and walked slowly to meet her groom and the ceremony began.

With Rings exchanged, they were declared man and wife. They moved to the table at the side to sign the register before heading back down the aisle in a cloud of confetti.

They then took a few moments on their own before their guests surrounded them.

Chairs and flowers were moved and guests took advantage of the old fashioned bicycle ice cream cart that had been set up in the field - perfect after having sat in the sun for so long.

The photographer gathered groups together before taking the bride and groom into the field for some informal photographs ending with a well earned drink!

Whilst all this was going on, friends and relations were unloading an amazing buffet from the back of their cars! This was laid out on long tables in the shade of the catalpa tree. Guests helped themselves and soon there was very little left!

Speeches followed the wedding breakfast - always a time for much laughter.

Guests explored the grounds, chatted or visited the bar which, with the hot weather was busy all day or some tried out the photobooth that had been set up in the gazebo. At one point there was a very definite “boy”s” table and a “girl’s” table!

7pm and time for the evening celebrations to begin but first the cake needed cutting and eating!

The music started in earnest and the couple took to the floor for the first dance where they were soon joined by their guests - the party had begun.

As the light began to fade, the photographer took a moment to take a few more photographs in the light that photographers prefer.

In the field the ice cream seller had been replaced by a roaring pizza oven and soon guests queued up to choose their favourite topping and delicious looking sides.

Wonderful start to our wedding year!

All the wonderful photographs were taken by a cousin of the groom unless marked “in house”

This was the first wedding of 2025 and it took a little while to slip back into wedding mode. Luckily this was a charming, very laid back and understanding couple.

The sky was dark when Oakleaf Marquees arrived to put up their two pole tent. in the field but as the day went on the sun came out and stayed with us for the weekend. The tent had very pretty rounded ends.

+44 1258 520345 / info@oakleafmarquees.co.uk / oakleafmarquees.co.uk

The couple arrived with two white gazebos which they put up behind the Marquee for the bar. Haybales were arranged outside as seating.

Friday and helpers arrived in force to help set up although the bride wanted to keep the decorations simple. She had dried masses flowers - some had been made into bunches to hang between the poles and some threaded onto string to make garlands.

Some had been reserved to sprinkle on the tables. Real flowers arrived by the bucketful. The more delicate ones were arranged in bottles collected over the last year and placed down the tables with name tags made from Laurel leaves,

The tables were named with “drinking orders”, each one written on a laurel leaf. When you found your table, another leaf with your name was waiting for you, along with a .wild flower seed bomb.

Larger flowers were arranged in big vases and then placed under the big oak to keep them cool over night. They were covered with a net to keep them safe from visiting foxes, badgers and rabbits! The next day they went outside the entrance to the marquee where ivy and fairy lights had been twisted up the poles.

The bride is an artist and she had turned one of her half finished pictures into the “timings for the day” board. This was propped up against a table holding a box for cards and a book for good wishes backed with more fresh flowers.

The final touches made, attention moved to the bar. The couple were providing drink with Copper Still Bar providing the bar staff and a fridge to keep everything cool. Friends hung up packets of crisps and nibbles for guests to take the following day.

hello@thecopperstillbar.co.uk / thecopperstillbar.co.uk

A table and chairs appeared and were quickly occupied by helpers needing a well earned rest.

Several friends arrived to set up their tents or park their camper vans by the garage.

Saturday and the sun was shining and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. The groom and his friends arrived to move the chairs from the marquee to the lower lawn where they arranged them in front of the the gazebo under the guidance 0f the Groom’s mother!

Soon it was time for the groom to see the Registrars before helping to seat his guests, out of sight of his bride who arrived in the most amazing vintage car owned by her father.

The bride wore a very plain but beautiful draped dress. The low draped back was laced with strings of beads made by the bride which looked amazing! Her hair was was threaded with margarites. She went into the house to see the registrars, past the ancestors in the porch, before making her way with her father down to the gazebo and her waiting groom.

The ceremony was conducted by Kevin, one of regular Registrars, and went without a hitch!

Soon it was time to go into the gazebo to sign the register before emerging to meet their guests as man and wife. The bride had dried rose petals for confetti and guests pelted them with this as they came down the aisle.

Ceremony over, the guests made a beeline for the bar where prosecco was on offer along with beer and fruit juice for the children. A couple of the guitarists from Kingsmen, an acoustic band, had set up on the lawn but moved to be nearer the guests who were not going to leave the bar!

Time passed quickly as Guests chatted and explored the grounds and walled garden. Soon it was 5.00pm and time to take their places in the marquee for speeches followed by a delicious hog roast meal provided by Spitting Pig who had been slaving away in the background for several hours!

+44 1305 490497 / sales@spittingpigdorset.co.uk / spittingpigdorset.co.uk

The menu was extensive and covered vegans and vegetarians as well as meat eaters and was accompanied by a variety of delicious salads. After the bride and groom had taken their food, a long queue had formed!

As a special surprise treat for the bride’s father, the couple had imported tubs of his favourite ice cream for pudding - Hockings Dairy Ice Cream all the way from Appledore in Devon.

+44 1237 474575 / info@hockingsicecream.co.uk / hockingsicecream.co.uk

At 8pm, the Kingsmen ramped up the music to full volume as the couple took to the floor for their first dance - unplanned and a complete surprise to them both! The party had begun and continued until midnight when carriages arrived for those not camping. The end of an amazing day.

The party continued with brunch the following day before tidying up began - many hands made light work.

The couple, Oakleaf Marquees and the Splendid loo company had very kindly said that we could keep the tent for a National Garden Scheme thank you party on the Monday. We even re-cycled the beautiful flowers. A huge thank you to them all.

Fun filled wedding with a sportive feel

All the wonderful photographs not marked “in house” we taken by Andrew Lomasney, a family friend.

Oakleaf marquees, an old favourite here at Shillingstone House arrived to put up their marquee on the Gazebo lawn as the couple had chosen to exchange their vows on the steps to the dining room. They came a day early as it was forecast to rain on the Thursday.

Images below shows off their Clear span marquee perfectly.

Friday and sun shone as colleagues from the bride’s workplace turned up to assemble the most amazing putting course! A first for Shillingstone House! The couple had even added a tiny golf buggy!!

+44 23 8200 2528 / info@provisionevents.co.uk / HTTPS://PROVISION-EVENTS.COM

The couple had connections to Jack Lander from Treble Hospitality and as a wedding present he very kindly laid on the bar facilities and the meals they were to enjoy on their wedding day.. He had asked to put the basic set up in place on the Friday. when he and his team erected a very smart, specially made, covering to shelter the bar..

They do not usually cater for weddings so the couple were really lucky.

The bridal couple came to check the marquee bringing a very smart table places board which they had made themselves. Covered in faux grass and golf balls it continued the golfing theme. The names of the guests would be added the next day in the shape of little bottles of homemade booze.

The couple had in fact got married in a registry office earlier in the week so the ceremony was being officiated over by a celebrant. Their original celebrant was sadly ill but Vickie Macintosh had kindly said she would step in. She normally presides at funerals but as she says on her Facebook page - I went to school in Shillingstone so had no hesitation when asked by @ceremonies_by_josie if I could fill in here for her of saying yes.

She held a rehearsal and discussion about the best places to stand etc. She had, with some difficulty, written a little “sermon” for, as she said the world of golf is full of innuendos!

+44 7790 065564 / vickiemacintoshcelebrant@gmail.com

Tables were put in place but not laid, as this would be done by the caterer on Saturday. Flowers were also arriving early on Saturday. A much less busy set up day than usual.

The Wedding Day arrived and the weather was glorious.

The sun poured through the clear span roof of the marquee where there had been much activity from early in the morning.

The tables had been laid, their cloths ironed in situ to remove the tiniest creases

The bar had been fully set up with a notice propped up outside advertising the drinks on offer

The noise levels rose as the bridegroom and his groomsmen arrived! They quickly put the chairs in place and we positioned the lectern that the celebrant had left with us overnight.

Juniper Hill Flowers delivered the flowers for the Aisle which transformed the setting

Juniper Hill also brought beautiful bunches of flowers and tea light holders for each table

Phone: 07588 693720 / Juniperhillflowers@outlook.com / Juniper Hill Flowers | Wedding Florist

Next came the finalising of the table planner - not an easy task as each bottle had a label and had to be put in the right golf course!

The time arrived for the arrival of the bride. The bridegroom had a quick beer to settle his nerves and a friend straightened his tie before heading round to the dining room steps.

Watched by our calves, a Rolls Royce glided up the drive to park in front of the house.

The bride’s father helped her out of the car. She looked amazing in a close-fitting lace dress with a fish tail train. Her hair had been caught back in a chignon studded with pearls.

The Celebrant was there to greet her. She posed with her bridesmaids, who were wearing matching pale blue draped dresses, before going into the house to have photographs taken and grab some quiet time before the ceremony.

But her groom and guests were waiting for her and she came out ready to join them - . HOWEVER. a late guest came up the drive and she had to hide behind the car much to everyone’s amusement.

The bridesmaids were joined by the best man and two groomsmen and everyone lined up by Catalpa tree waiting for the signal to go.

The ceremony was beautiful.

At the end they left to be pelted with confetti before making their way across the lawn to a well earned glass of prosecco!

Before everyone scattered the photographer shot upstairs and took a group picture.

Prosecco and a buffet followed while guests chatted or tried their hand at the putting course. Both the bride and groom joined in with the bride showing off her skill.

The photographer managed to lure the couple away for some formal photographs followed by some informal ones in the walled garden and white walk.

They returned to the marquee to be greeted by their friends as a married couple. Once settled speeches started and much laughter and cheers followed.

6.30 and delicious pizzas began to appear out of the red hot oven in the field follwed by a cookie tower for those who still had any room left.

Brett had also played the Ceremony music and background music during the day.

As darkness fell and the lights went on in the garden and bar, more couples joined the dancing and continued to party until midnight when they left for their homes or B&Bs ready to fall into bed.

It had been an amazing day with non stop entertainment.

The events of the day had also been capture on Video by Lewis Munt

Thursday morning and the sun was shining as Perfect Party Tents arrived to put up a beautiful octagonal marquee in the field. They had brought bell tents to Shillingstone before but never a full size marquee. Behind the main marquee they erected a smaller tent for seating which they provided along with the benches and tables.

Perfect Party Tents - 07539 419636 / perfectpartytents@hotmail.com / http://www.perfectpartytents.co.uk/

In the centre of the marquee Quality Marquee Hire inserted the most beautiful dance floor that we have ever had here at Shillingstone - a perfect shiny chequerboard square.

For a set sum, Fiona from Perfect Party Tents allow their clients to have access to their Alladin’s cave of extras where they can choose furniture, props and decorations to suite their chosen theme. These were stored until Friday when an army of friends and relations turned up to put them in place.

Before Perfect Party Tents left, they started the glamping village in the outer walled garden with a few of their bell tents which were very beautifully decorated.

Flowers went into the churns lent by Perfect Party tents and a variety of small glass containers. Some of the flowers had been grown by the bride and the bridegroom’s mother - not easy in this year of drought - plus a couple of buckets from Penny Close Farm - flowersfromthefarm.co.uk/members/pennyclose-farm-flowers/ www.pennyclosefarm.co.uk
jenny.cobb@pennyclosefarm.co.uk - They also made the bride’s bouquet.

The Hire Barn - The Hire Barn - Home / enquiries@thehirebarn.com - arrived to set up a wonderful array of beautifully made lawn games ready for guests to enjoy the following day.

The couple were expecting large numbers of young children, many of them school friends of their sons. They had made a special “bar” dispensing soft drinks and sweets and we lent them a gazebo to go over the top. We had also moved an old swing frame to the lawn complete with it’s new tent cover. The bride had even provided bubble guns and colouring books.

Dike and Sons from Stalbridge arrived with their bar which, as the weather was so glorious, they set up in the shade of the trees beside the marquee. - Dike & Son / info@dikeandson.co.uk

The weather forecast predicted no rain so the chairs were moved from the marquee to the lower lawn and set out in front of the Gazebo ready for the ceremony the next day.

in house

The final duty was to consign the smaller vases of flowers to the care of the ancestors in the porch for a night.spent safely on the cool marble floor.

Saturday and the groom and his friends arrived to finalise the finishing touches.

Two sets of sunglasses were arranged on the table in the Gazebo and bunches of flowers tied to the chairs on the aisle.

Smaller arrangements went back on the tables. The marquee looked amazing - as one guest said later “It looks like something out of “Country Living “ Magazine”. A huge amount of thought had gone into the planning but the end product was relaxed and informal.

Guests began to arrive and soon it was tine for them to take their seats. The mother of the groom pinned on his buttonhole and he went to wait nervously for his bride.

The bride arrived looking relaxed and beautiful. Her father looked so proud as he helped her out of the car.

She posed for some photographs before going into the house to see the registrars. She was wearing a close fitting lace dress with a sweetheart neckline and the most beautiful train with lace detail. It was perfect for her and she looked amazing.

01258 423321 / info@exclusivelyyoursbridalboutique.co.uk / exclusivelyyoursbridalboutique.co.uk

The bride had no bridesmaids so she and her father set off alone under the Catalpa tree to meet her groom.

His duties done, her father returned to his seat and with a quick tweak to her train, the couple were ready to start the ceremony.

The main part of the ceremony over, their two sons joined them for a handfasting ceremony to bind the family together.

Other children amongst the guests were invited up to tighten the knot. and the bride and groom were declared man and wife.

The register signed, they walked back down the aisle , snatching a few minutes under amongst the ribbons hung in the Catalpa Tree, before returning to the house for some all important time to themselves.

There Kelly took some more wonderful photographs while the groomsmen lined the guests up outside the dining room windows.

Time to go out to face a bombardment of congratulations and confetti!

A few formal photographs followed plus some with their children before they returned to the marquee to mingle with their friends.

Guests, especially the young, took full advantage of the games laid out for them, even the slipperiness of the dance floor put to the test.

There was no formal sit down meal , with guests helping themselves to the delicious feast laid on by Dikes washed down with beer from the bar.

Guests explored the grounds and caught up with old friends and it was no time at all before it was time to cut the cake - an incredible confection decorated with real flowers, made by the Bride!!! Her mother in law made chocolate cake and step mother an iced fruit cake.

Soon the great moment that the children had been waiting for arrived - they were allowed to attack the huge red Piñata hanging from the roof of the marquee!

The sun began to go down and Kelly took the couple to the walled garden to take a few more informal pictures.

7.00 pm and the disco - Luv Wed - began to play, evening guests arrived and the party began with the First Dance.

Music continued until Midnight with a break for guests to collect their delicious hog roast from the stall that Julien Else, from Else Family Butchers in Stalbridge, had set up in the field by the marquee.
