Our first Naval and Military wedding!

Oakleaf marquees arrived on the Wednesday morning to put up their marquee in the field at the back of the house.  The weather was gloomy but the forecast for the afternoon and the weekend was luckily much better. (https://www.oakleafmarquees.co.uk)

As this was a day earlier than usual, much work was still being done in the gardens to make everything perfect.  Having the marquee in the field meant that guests would have a wonderful view of the borders which were full of huge yellow daisies.

Friday brought family and friends to decorate the marquee.  Bunting was strung along the inside and a photobooth frame set up in one corner – both lent by Shillingstone House.  A barrel was placed inside the entrance with a decorated box for cards on top.

Beautiful flowers were arranged on slices of wood, cut by the bride’s father, in the middle of each table. Flowers were provided by Daisy Delbridge from Sturminster Newton who also made the bride’s bouquet. (https://daisydelbridge.co.uk/)

A friend of the bride arrived with the wedding cake she had made and she carefully assembled the layers ready to be decorated the following day.

Saturday dawned and the sun came out in celebration.  A shepherd’s hut loo unit arrived all the way from Devon and took up it’s place by the marquee – too beautiful to hide behind.  What did go behind was another shepherd’s hut ready for the bride and groom to sleep in on their wedding night. The father of the bride arrived to put the finishing touches to the wedding cake and to check that everything was in order.

The bride and groom were getting married in the village church but the groom and his friends came up to the house to get their button holes and for those in the military and navy, to put on their swords!  They looked incredibly smart as they set off for the church.

The bride and groom were driven back to the house in a beautiful Aston Martin Rapide having had photographs taken at the church.  They joined their guests on the lawns for drinks and canapes provided by Dike and Sons (https://www.dikes-direct.co.uk/)

Nicky Hill took the couple off to take some wonderful, relaxed photographs in the gardens ending with a group one taken from an upstairs window. She took all the photographs unless marked “in house” (https://www.nickyhillphotography.com)  .

Photographs finished, everyone repaired to the marquee for the wedding breakfast – also prepared by Dike and Sons – and the cutting of the cake – with the groom’s sword of course!

The Benedicts – Disco and Band - https://www.thebenedicts.co.uk  – arrived to set up and as the sun went down the music began and continued until the witching hour of midnight.  No-one was camping so taxis and mini buses arrived to take the guests back to their homes, hotels and B&Bs and the bride and groom retired to spend the night in their shepherd’s hut beneath the trees.

It had been a beautiful celebration full of fun.
